The Paralegal career may be challenging but it is also rewarding for Paralegals who have adequate Paralegal training and the capacity to be thorough in the execution of their duties! Many people opt to join a profession without the informed knowledge of what the duties entail. As a Paralegal you are expected to be conversant with the law having obtained adequate training from an American Bar Association approved Paralegal institution. You may be assigned the job of writing legal documents. Filing and indexing and the general management of a law firm is usually assigned to a Paralegal. You are expected to be able to do most of a lawyer's work except defending a client in court.

On the other hand, if you are employed in the legal department of an organization, it will be your duty to attend to the public on legal matters. and the organization you represent as a Paralegal. In the past most of the jobs Paralegals do today were done by lawyers, but with the upgrading of Paralegal training, firms have found it convenient to hire Paralegals than lawyers and save money.

Today Paralegals are required in all the different endeavors of life. Government and Business offices such as Commercial firms, Insurance firms and even banks now employ Paralegals. For this reason you are expected to specialize in a particular Paralegal field of your choice in other to be qualified to work in that Paralegal field. For instance, a Military Paralegal should have been trained and passed both Military and war law courses to qualify as a Military Paralegal. You can obtain this kind of training as a fresh Paralegal student or as a working Paralegal who decides to upgrade their career.

The major challenge of the Paralegal career is the mountain of work that must be done. For this reason Paralegals are most like to do over time on a continuous basis. This is where a Paralegal passes the acid test or falls by the way side. Though for some Paralegals the overtime pay has been enough motivation to carry on with the challenges. A hard working Paralegal's basic pay plus the overtime pay turns into above average take home pay in the United States.

To conclude this Paralegal career information, I want you to note that Paralegals are no more seen as Lawyer's clerks as was the case in the past. Today the Entry level for Paralegal career is a Bachelor Degree. Respect for the profession and Paralegals has greatly improved, because Paralegals now come well trained and are much more while handling productive higher responsibilities in law firms and the legal departments of organizations.
